TIP
It is not advisable for students to collect their own interview apart form oral history programs. For one thing, if the student cites the interview, where will the interview be for other researchers to consult? An interview can be a precious, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for someone to convey a unique perspective on what may sometimes have been a traumatic or painful experiences. At Marymount Manhattan College, and Institutional Review Board oversees any research that draws on human subjects, including interviews. Please click here for more information on that IRB. For more immigrant oral histories, and more on the issues surrounding such interviews, please consult the Center for Global Migration Studies' Archive of Immigrant Voices.
