BUS 309: Financial Management: Research Sources

This guide is intended to assist students preparing research papers on mergers and acquisitions for Professor Vandana Rao's BUS 309 class during the Spring 2024 semester.

How Do I Find a Merger to Study?

Start by Googling Mergers + a year, such as Mergers 2017, Mergers 2018, etc., or Mergers + an industry, such as Mergers Fashion. From the lists you see on Google, you can identify likely candidates for your research. You need a publicly traded company, so you may want to see if the candidates for your research paper are listed on the New York Stock Exchange or Nasdaq.

Company and Industry Data

Check the company website, especially web pages for "investors." This is where companies post data the Securities and Exchange Commission requires be made public.

Need Visuals?

Get a sense of how much or how little there might be on your topic by going to the library's Quick Search (http://www.mmm.edu > Quick Links > Library, then look on the left) and entering your company's name, or the words that most precisely describe the issues surrounding your merger. You can use the filters on the left to narrow the search to full-text materials, to post-2016 materials, and to news or to scholarship .
