Calculator: Please bring a simple calculator to class each day. You are responsible for learning how to use your calculator.
Reading: To keep current with Business news, please read one or more of the following: The Wall Street Journal, the Financial Times, Business Week, Barron’s, Fortune, Forbes, The Economist, or the financial section of a major newspaper. Alternatively, keep current through financial websites.
E-mail, Brightspace and Technology Issues: You need an MMC e-mail account as well as access to Brightspace. If there are Brightspace access issues, contact Brian Rocco at (212) 774-4802 or email: brocco@mmm.edu. If there are technology issues, please contact IT Support at: techsupport@mmm.edu.
To log on to Brightspace, please start at MMC’s website, https://www.mmm.edu. Click Inside MMC on the top right corner to get to a bright blue landing page and click on the Brightspace rectangle to get to the login page. On the login page enter your full screenname (griffy@mmm.edu, not just griffy) and the same password you use for other MMC accounts. Up comes your personal landing page. Brightspace hides the list of courses in which the student enrolled in a “waffle,” or a little rectangle composed of even smaller rectangles positioned on the top center of the student’s personal webpage. Students who don't see their classes on Brightspace should check their schedules on MMC Connect to ensure they're properly enrolled.
Save all drafts: Save all work (including drafts) on a personal e-mail account or the Cloud, so that you can work and print from anywhere if a computer fails. To check that your file is not corrupt, send it to yourself through mmc e-mail (and double-check) before you upload it to Brightspace.
Tips for Submitting Assignments on Brightspace
One of the following formats must be used when submitting an assignment to Brightspace:
Please note: If you are working on a Mac and using Pages, you will need to format the document to one of the above formats instead of.Pages. To do so in Pages: click on ‘File’ > ‘Export…’ and then select one of the formats listed (Word or PDF are probably your best options) > click ‘Next’ and then save the file locally and upload it to Brightspace. Please do not send materials via Google.doc. There will be a severe penalty for all files that cannot be accessed or are in the wrong format.
Your final grade is determined by the cumulative performance on exams, assignments and quizzes. Please save all drafts as e-mail attachments and maintain a file with all graded/returned work.
If you need a mid-term report, the highest possible reported grade is a B, as I cannot foresee grades on the term paper and final exam.
At any point, your grade to date can be computed as follows. For example, if you have a total of 120 out of 150 points; your grade is 80% (120/150 multiplied by 100). Final grades will be determined using the following scale:
