Student Welcome: Library Top Ten

This guide is intended to provide information for new Marymount Manhattan College students.

Brightspace logo

Brightspace is MMC's Learning Management System. To access it, go here or to MMC > Inside MMC > Brightspace. For online tutorials, go here. If you have questions about specific classes, start by emailing the course professor. If Brightspace does not work at all, please email Library Director Brian Rocco at brocco@mmm.edu.

My Professor Said the Book Was on Reserve . . .

You can see all books reserve here or by going to MMC > Inside MMC > Course Reserves. Professors make individual decisions regarding reserve books, but there's nothing wrong with a polite inquiry.

I Need a Work-Study Job

If you are work-study eligible, email Circulation Manager Jon Arevalo (jarevalo@mmm.edu) and Media Coordinator Jordan Horsley (jhorsley@mmm.edu) with your resume and the times you're available to work.

Media Center jobs involve moving equipment, setting it up, breaking it down, checking it out and making sure all the parts are checked back in. Circulation jobs involve checking out reserves and also checking out and troubleshooting laptops and printers. You may apply for either or send the same email to both Jon and Jordan.

When Is the Library Open?

8:00 a.m. -11:00 p.m. Library staff are on duty during business hours Monday-Friday 9am-5pm and on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. Security is at the 71st Street entrance to the building other times.

The Media Center circulates equipment to Comm Arts students Monday through Thursday 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Friday 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The Media Center neither receives nor checks out equipment Saturday, Sunday, or holidays.

I Need a Laptop . . .

For a short-term (hour- or daylong) loan, come to the Library's Circulation Desk (lower level, 2nd floor of Nugent) and one of our workers will check one out to you. For a long-term (overnight +) loan, please email Circulation Manager Jon Arevalo at jarevalo@mmm.edu

Marymount Manhattan College has purchased a college-wide subscription to the New York Times. All you have to do is create an account within MMC's umbrella. Click here or go to MMC > Inside MMC > Library > New York Times Academic Pass. Once you've created your account, go to nytimes.com and log in on the upper right. Use the search box on the upper left to search Times articles back to when the newspaper began in 1851.

HOW DO I PRINT?

If the file you wish to print is online, you can access it via a library desktop and touch Control + P. If this doesn't work, or you're using a laptop, make sure the file is up-load-able and that it's saved in .docx or .pdf. Go to MMC > Inside MMC > Online Printing, and log in with your screen name and password. (You may also need to use your One Login credentials) Follow the prompts. If it doesn't work, try breaking a large document into small ones. or see a librarian.

You're welcome to Zoom in the lower level of the library. However, please be aware that one popular place, the lower-level Library Conference Room can be reserved using MMC's Ad Astra booking system (mmm.edu\reservations).

See a list of places available in the Nugent Building here.

I Need Sources for a Paper

You can IM the reference librarians via LibChat; a good way to ask which database is best for which project, or to let the librarians know something does not seem to be working. You can also send an email to the reference staff via Ask a Librarian; describe your project and a reference librarian will recommend databases as soon as they can research them. You can also come by the library. One of the reference librarians is available every day of the week, during business hours Monday through Friday and during the afternoon Saturday and Sunday.
